THE ROAD TO CRCP 2025
CANPA’S flagship biennial event, the Caribbean Regional Conference of Psychology (CRCP) will be held on June 9-13, 2025 in partnership with our local hosts, the Barbados Society of Psychology. The CRCP is the largest psychology conference in the Caribbean and routinely attracts scholars, researchers, professionals and students from around the region and the globe. This is the 6th CRCP following previous conferences in St Croix (online) in 2021, Jamaica in 2018, Haiti in 2016, Suriname in 2014 and the inaugural conference in The Bahamas in 2011. The CRCP 2025 conference theme "Building Mental Health Resiliencies: Empowering Our Communities" will showcase innovative practices, evidence-based interventions, and research.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

As we prepare for the CRCP in Barbados, amidst a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, economic inequities and the ever pressing challenges of climate change, we are reminded more than ever of the vital role that Caribbean psychology plays in shaping resilient, empowered communities and supporting sustainable development. In a region marked by cultural richness, historical complexity, and unique social realities, our psychological science must not only respond to global issues but also reflect and serve the lived experiences of Caribbean peoples. As the regional leader in Caribbean psychology, CANPA remains steadfast in our mission to strengthen the foundations of psychological science across the Caribbean. Psychological science, when grounded in the lived realities, cultures, and histories of the Caribbean, becomes a powerful force for empowerment, advocacy, and transformation.
As we strive to widen and deepen our impact, we will continue to, amplify Caribbean voices in psychology, collaborate with regional and global partners, innovate in response to emerging challenges, lead efforts to to build capacity, inform policy, and support the evolving needs of our profession and our communities. Together, we will champion a psychology that is both globally informed and locally rooted. A Caribbean Psychology that goes beyond the application of imported theories and frameworks. A growing, contextually grounded psychology that prioritizes well- being, resilience, social justice and culturally valid research and practices. A Caribbean psychology which is not only necessary, but indispensable to the just and sustainable future we are working to build together. I look forward to welcoming you all to the CRCP in Barbados!
CANPA PARTNERS WITH CDEMA TO PROVIDE POST-BERYL PSYCHOSOCIAL TRAINING AND SUPPORT
Hurricane Beryl severely impacted communities across the eastern Caribbean. In response, CANPA psychologists, in partnership with CDEMA (Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency) following the recently established Caribbean Psychosocial Support Interagency Consortium, were deployed to conduct psychosocial support, self-care and psychoeducation seminars and workshops for government and NGO stakeholders, and parents and caregivers in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique in December, 2024.
CANPA AND IUPSYS HOST DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH WEBINAR

In 2020, CANPA successfully hosted an inaugural symposium on Disaster Mental Health featuring the experiences, lessons and priorities of regional stakeholders. On its five-year anniversary, CANPA revisited this topical and timely theme and hosted a webinar titled: Regional Psychological Organisations: Transforming the Disaster Mental Health Landscape, on April 28, 2025, in collaboration with the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS).
CANPA and IUPsyS share a longstanding relationship, and this kind of synergistic partnership helps both organizations achieve their goals of developing the profession of psychology and fostering the exchange of knowledge and skills. These collaborative efforts help build culturally sensitive, scalable mental health frameworks that strengthen preparedness, improve response efforts, and foster resilience in all our disaster-affected communities.
The webinar featured achievements of CANPA in advancing disaster mental health in the Caribbean region, experiences and achievements from select IUPsyS regions around the globe (ASEAN Regional Union of Psychological Societies (ARUPS) and Pan African Psychology Union (PAPU)), as well as a presentation from the IUPsyS Work Group: Response to Crisis, and a WHO (World Health Organisation) presentation addressing the use of EQUIP as a tool in MHPSS Service delivery in Disaster Contexts.
