Building Caribbean Psychology

CANPA works with the Caribbean psychology community to develop a psychology discipline that is relevant to issues, realities, and cultural and historical context of the Caribbean, and to support development of the profession throughout the region.

Our Journey

In 2011, the first Caribbean Regional Conference of Psychology was held in Nassau, Bahamas which gave rise to the formation of an interim group, the Caribbean Organization of Psychology Steering Committee. Two years later, in 2013, CANPA was launched.

About the CANPA Logo

The overall shape of the logo represents the human brain and varied landscape of the Caribbean, stretching from the northwest to the southeast. The bright colours symbolize the fusion of the Caribbean’s rich cultures and heritages. The symbol of Psychology arising in the midst of the Caribbean with its centre in the heart of the Caribbean Sea reflects the substantial role that psychology will play in the development of the region. Finally, the parallel lines signify equality between the various islands and the flowing shapes depict the historical and contemporary movement of people, activity, collaboration and integration.

Executive Council

The Executive Council carries out the decisions of the General Assembly of CANPA and is responsible for operations of the Alliance. The Executive Council consists of 6 elected CANPA officers, 4 elected members at large, and 2 ex officio members.
